Friday 28th to Sunday 30th October - South West Freshers' Extravaganza - REMINDER

Just a reminder that this coming weekend is the South West Freshers' Extravaganza in Keynsham, near Bristol.

The camp costs £30, inclusive of campsite fees, activities, and food.  We will be getting the train there on Friday afternoon, and back on Sunday afternoon.  In order to get the cheapest rail tickets possible, we are looking to book soon, and preferably get group saver discounts.  Please let us know asap if you would like to attend.  You can do this by emailing exeterssago@gmail.com, or writing on the wall of our Facebook group.

We hope to get tickets booked within the next couple of days.  If you decide later in the week that you would like to attend the camp (and we hope that you will!), then you will still be able to come, but train prices may have increased by then.  It promises to be a great weekend of camping, activities, and socialising with other SSAGO clubs from the South West.

Friday 28th to Sunday 30th October - South West Freshers' Extravaganza

Next weekend sees all of the SSAGO clubs in the South West meeting up for a Freshers' Extravaganza camp in Keynsham, near Bristol.  So far clubs from Plymouth, Bristol, and UWE have confirmed they're attending, and of course SAGE will also be putting in an appearance for what promises to be a great weekend!

The weekend will cost £30, plus transport costs.  We are planning on getting the train there and back, which is currently around £15 return with a 16-25 railcard.

Activities for the weekend are still to be confirmed, but what we do know is that the theme of the camp is 'assassins'.  More details should soon be posted on the South West Freshers' Extravaganza Facebook event:  Click here.

If you would like to attend, then please let the SAGE committee know asap, either by email to exeterssago@gmail.com, writing on the SAGE with DofE Facebook page (click here), or speaking to us at tonight's social (pub quiz/skittles at The Ship and Pelican, Heavitree.  Meet outside Next at top of the High Street at 6:45pm, or at the pub at 7:30pm).  The quicker we can get numbers, the quicker we can book train tickets, and the cheaper they will be!

Thursday 20th October - Pub Quiz/Skittles - TONIGHT!!!

Tonight's meeting will be a Pub Quiz/Skittles evening at the Ship and Pelican pub in Heavitree.  This will be a joint evening with Exeter Network and Scout Active Support.

For those of you who don't know where this is, or if you just want some company on the walk there, then we are meeting outside Next at the top of the High Street at 6:45pm, in order to stroll down to the pub in time for a 7:30pm start.  Any St Luke's students, or others who don't want to meet at Next, we'll see you at the Ship and Pelican at 7:30pm.

Thursday 13th October - DofE Information Evening and CRB Completion Session - TONIGHT!!!

Just a wee reminder that there will be a DofE information evening tonight at 7pm in Queens LT4.1.  This session will also serve as an ideal time to complete your CRB form, which is a requirement of being a member of SSAGO, which you all are as members of SAGE.  Please see the previous post on this website for information as to what ID documents are acceptable.

As a taster, here is a video of my (Andrew Tyrrell) Gold Award assessment expedition, which took place on Dartmoor in 2006.

Thursday 6th October - Beach BBQ - TONIGHT!!!

Tonight will see the first of our socials for this term, and hopefully the weather will hold out for us!

The plan is to meet outside the Great Hall at 6pm, and to get the train down to Exmouth and the beach.  Food is provided by the society, but you will need to bring your own drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), and money and railcards (if you have them) for the train.  The fare is not normally more than a few pounds for a return journey.

Please also bring your membership cards, or alternatively a receipt showing that you have paid membership so that we can issue you with a membership card.  You can still sign up online by logging into the Students' Guild website, and finding 'SAGE with DofE' under the Recreational sub-heading.  Failing all of the above, bring £7 cash and we can sort you out with a membership.

If the weather cans out on us, then we will still meet outside the Great Hall at 6pm, but will come up with an alternative plan.  Any questions or problems, don't hesitate to email us at exeterssago@gmail.com

Welcome to SAGE with DofE!

Hello, and welcome to SAGE with DofE!  Now entering its third year as a fully-functioning society, we are pleased to offer Exeter University students the opportunity to be a part of the Student Scout and Guide Organisation (SSAGO), and the ability to work towards a Duke of Edinburgh's (DofE) Award while studying.

We have weekly socials, including BBQs, climbing, skittles, pub quizzes, and much more.  Once a term we join other university's SSAGOs at the national rallies for a weekend of camping, activities, and socialising.  We also run a Freshers' Camp near the beginning of the Autumn Term to allow our new members to get to know each other, and for the older members to get to know them.

We can assist our members with any aspect of their DofE programme, especially the Expedition section for which we help with organising at least one practice and one assessment Expedition each year.  Members can either sign up to the DofE directly through us, or transfer a DofE programme to us for completion whilst at university in Exeter.

Take a look around our new website for information on our programme, SSAGO, DofE, and anything else.  Please feel free to contact the society if you have any questions or require more information.  Our email address is exeterssago@gmail.com
